Get Back to Nature at the 2014 Fat Cat Children's Festival in Kelowna, BC

Every year the Children's Festival Society of Kelowna works to deliver a high-quality professionally produced educational festival. The Fat Cat Children's Festival's biggest sponsor is Interior Savings, but this event is truly a community effort. Businesses donate time and resources, and local volunteers give their time to ensure the event's success.

A Natural Theme Worth Celebrating

The Focus of the event is children of the Central Okanagan, and the goal is to promote creativity and imagination. This year the festival's theme is "Inspiring Creativity: Naturally." With so much natural beauty in BC's interior, it's easy to get grounded and connected with nature. The Fat Cat Children's festival invites visitors to explore, experiment and engage with eco-friendly activities, workshops and performances.

When Wonder Fills Waterfront

The Fat Cat Children's festival is once again being held at Waterfront Park in downtown Kelowna. The annual event has been inspiring and entertaining the community since 1990. Originally held during the summer, the Fat Cat Children's festival was moved ahead to the beginning of June in 2007. This year the festival is scheduled for June 6th and 7th, and locals and organizers are looking forward to a fun-filled event rain or shine.

Inspiring Creativity in Central Interior Children

Children from all over BC's central interior are invited to the festival for a day of discovery. School day takes place on Friday June 6th, and is a great way for students to experience the creative arts and get involved with hands-on activities. School District #23, private schools and home-schooled children all participate in this popular event.

When the Community Comes Together to Celebrate

Deemed Community Day, the second day of the festival is truly embraced by all of Kelowna. Residents from all over the Okanagan and beyond look forward to taking part in this fun-filled festival. There is a small admission fee, but once on the grounds, activities and performances are free. Early bird passes are available for a discounted rate, and can be purchased starting in May at any Interior Savings branch. Admission on the day of the festival is $5.00 for one person or $15.00 for a family of four.

A Popular Parade on a Day of Play

Everyone loves a parade, and Fat Cat Children's Festival has entertained spectators with them for many years. This popular parade engages children, and even has them participate in the action. The parade starts at 10:00 in the morning on Saturday June 7th on the corner of Cawston Avenue and Richter Street. Local businesses and participants are looking forward to taking to the streets and showing their support for this inspiring community event.

Food vendors will be serving up local favourites and other festival goodies, but there is no ATM on site, so have some cash on hand for food and raffle tickets. The event is offering more performances, street vendors and activities to festival visitors this year, and promises to be a fun day for families and community members to enjoy together.
